British Midland

British Midland. They operated to LBA in the 70s with a Viscount on the Glasgow route, the disappeared until 1980 when they took over the London Heathrow route from British Airways.  Initially they used the Viscount 800s, but these were replaced after a couple of years with the McDonnell Douglas DC9 15, and then the DC9 32, one of which was LBA based.  Over the years they used a wide variety of aircraft. Around 1986 they leased an Airways International Cymru BAC1-11 G-WLAD.  This was then replaced with the DC9 32 (with occasional DC9 15s).  Later still, these were replaced with Boeing 737 200's which included one leased from Belgium - then Boeing 737 300s and 500s.   The Boeings were later replaced with the Fokker 100 and on quieter rotations the Fokker 70.  These also eventually gave way to the Airbus A320 and then finally, as loads reduced a little, the A319.  Just occasionally they used the Airbus A321 if the load demanded it or an aircraft was tech.

On top of this, they operated a variety of smaller aircraft from time to time on the Heathrow route, mainly at weekends, and on their other LBA routes which included Paris CDG, Cork, Lille (briefly), Glasgow, Edinburgh. Copenhagen (again briefly) and Brussels which they picked up after the demise of Sabena.  Types operated varied from the Shorts 360 and Jetstream 41, Fokker F27 Friendship through to the Saab 340 and BAe ATP.
